this is Abigail-
just before noon Superbowl Sunday.
the kidney doctor stopped by and they are going to try to fit him in Monday!! hope there are no emergencies that put him further down the list.
she talked with him and explained exactly how it works. he then asked a coherent question and understood the answer and it's implication!
Dad asked very slowly ' i need to know what is going on with my fingers' and the kidney doctor explained his condition and how the blood is not reaching his fingers and i explained that he will lose some of the tips of his fingers. he totally understood and was not happy about the loss. it was so wonderful hearing him talk, ask and understand we were are elated. he was confused why we were happy and i explained that its one of the first times he has been almost totally coherent in 16 days.
i will ask the vocal therapist Monday about the ice chip practice and possibility of seltzer water (the nurses on now are not allowing it! they did not get the doc memo and don't think i know what's up). dad asked for 7up again and i asked ' what about seltzer?' he said 'yes'. i asked if he wants bubbly liquid to help clear his throat and he replyed 'yes'. i asked him if he thinks he'll be able to swallow again and he said 'oh yeah'. will power can not be underestimated.
