Visitor Information

From Arlene. Abigail will be leaving for Vermont on the 15th or 16th - Tuesday or Wednesday.  If you can/would like to visit Bill while she's away (not yet certain how long), it would be helpful if you'd email her (abbybanksisalive@gmail.com) or post a message on the blog so she can set up a schedule.

Some of the rules for visitors:
Register at the desk in the lobby on the 2nd floor of the building (address is on earlier post about sending cards)
Some doors close at 8 pm but it is aways possible to get to the adjacent parking structure and to the street.
For anyone willing to spend the night: one of the chairs converts to a little bed and the hospital supplies a pillow and blankets.
Visits by non family members so far have been OK -- if asked, tell them you're a friend or colleague; not a lot of visitors at the same time.
Best to call ahead to be sure he won't be in the dialysis room when you arrive. (323-783-9721. Bill is in Rm. 7327)
No flowers or plants; if you want to bring something, bring a gift for his nurses. Card or book is OK but so far he hasn't been reading.
No food for Bill. No eating in the room.
Talk softly.
The cafe is on 2nd floor
Be sure to use public elevator, not the staff or patient elevator.  Staff members are friendly and helpful.
There are no limits on time.
No kids, no colds, no eating in the room.
A critical time is morning when the doctors are on their rounds and can answer questions.
Ask the nurse if you can do anything to help, such as move his legs, give him ice chips.
Enjoy the spectacular view!

If you have visited and have other suggestions, please add.
