Thank God Preliminary results on the MRI shows no sign of damage beyond slight shrinkage normally found at his age!! WoooHooo!! they are going to have a second neurologist look at the results and may have to set up a EEG to see if there is something the MRI cannot pick up. they may or may not recommend this EEG depending on the second neurologist's opinion.
the nurse today, Ferdinand, named off every medication and remedy they administer to him daily, twice a day and more. There were so many i lost count. No wonder he is in a fog. plus the all over pain, weakness and constant needles, nose feed, noises, extreme dry mouth and endless time here. I had a feeling he was still there under the blanket of the hospitalization treatment.
i'm starting to I think his yelling request for coke a cola might have to do with getting that dry stuff out of his throat. the carbonation can help remove the dry guerrilla glue like stuff back there. The man gargles with over the counter hydrogen peroxide at home for Pete's sake! but, he cannot have coke or Pepsi quite yet.
his swallowing is of top concern to the doctors for the time being. His heart and kidneys are still damaged (his kidney's may never get back to where they once were). The doctors explained sometimes kidney failure causes the person to act like a stroke patient. they might do kidney dialysis to flush them of toxins. (that often brings people back to their senses) we'll wait and see.
if he cannot swallow water/ice chips on his own within about 10 days they will have to take other measures to get him food/water/meds. He cannot have the nose tube in for too long because it will eventually cause damage. the 'throat' specialist says to keep practicing, keep his mouth clean, and remind him to swallow when we swab his mouth out. i think if we practice a few times a day, he'll regain his swallow. by the way, i'm not pushing him, i let him rest and help when he indicates he needs help, a mouth swab, music, no music, tv no tv, or to be moved. mostly i sit near by and he is resting.
just read this! Wow, what a RELIEF!!!
ReplyDeleteSeems like the type of tissue impact a heart event would have on the brain would show up on the MRI so this is great news. Highlights the possible transitory nature of Bill’s symptoms; especially in light of the mega medications he is getting. It’ll be interesting to research the med’s to see side effects and interactions of what he is taking…. A research adventure for us! Abigail, you are a marvel! I know Bill responds to your gentle encouragement and persistence. Way to go!!
ReplyDeletethe cardiologist stopped by, he said kidney dialysis might really be needed soon. the EKG i spoke of in this post is incorrect. what will happen friday am is another brain test that can spot other problems the MRI cannot detect.
ReplyDeleteMiracles can happen! We are so happy about the MRI results. Thank you for keeping us all of to date on how Bill is doing. Best to you Abigail, Kris, and all of Bill Banks Friends.
